Why dont you use XP's disk manager to format and partition it ??
I have the 200gig version of this drive and it partitioned and formatted fine in XP
If you got a Abit NF7-s use the IDE adapter that came in the box (or borrow one) and set it up as such.
But i also have to ask Why dont you use XP's disk manager? has it got data on there u need?
Partition magic - as neat as it is, can be very nasty if it goes tits up.
I have no problems using the XP disk manager on my SATA RAID array - quick and simple.
to be honest, i've never heard of xp disk manager before. will go and find it.
Right click on my computer, click manage.
Expand the storage section in the pane on the left. Then click disk management.
Voila. Just bear in mind that everything you do is immediate - no undo.
If you are in XP, Right-click on My Computer --> Manage --> Disk ManagementQuote:

ok found it, but the drive is set as a dynamic drive and not like the others. can't see how i can partition it as no options to do so appear?
You need to convert the drive which will then allow you to partition it. Then if you do a quick format on each one you're sorted and it takes all of 10 mins.
Yeah, keeping it as a dynamic drive would suck - trust me I've dealt with them before.
Right click on the drive in the disk manager - on the left, not on the partition section. There will be an option to convert the basic disk - note that this is a destructive process and any data will be lost from the drive.
