About LinkBacksI cannot find my wireless receiver dongle since moving house, can this be supplemented with another receiver? perhaps from a cheaper model of mouse? or even better, does anybody know where I could acquire a replacement?

I'd contact Logitech first to see if they can help you out. I'm sure you're not the first person to lose it so they might sell replacements for a small fee.
Contact logitech, their customer suport is supposed to be very good, explain your unfortunate predicament and they may send one out free of charge,
