Concave IHS - damn you intel.

Even after fitting my Ninja I can OC no further 334 MHz and
thats just about it. Even then Orthos will stop after a second or two. It seems ok at 325 though.

Taking off the ninja I noticed that the thermal compound wasn't touched in the middle and it was quite a big area...

I have thought of lapping it and even taking the IHS. I have read that the E4300 uses grease so is "easier" to take off than the E6's which apparently use an epoxy. Im not going to do it though im too much of a big jessy. Possibly i will lap it in a few months knowing the cpu is probably ok and wont need to be returned.

Ahh crap orthos just failed at 16 minutes down to 2.9 now.

I just know intel released decent E4300 at first to trick everyone. The swines.

How has everyone else been doing with their E4300s bought in the last fews weeks

My recent e4300 is running at 3ghz.......334 seems to be a sorta barrier when you start having to raise the cpu volts, tried leaping this "barrier" by 10 but winxp crashed.

Surely that means its convex shaped rather than concave...

They should start selling convex and concave heatsinks

concave - like a cave, goes in.

If the heatsink hacn't touched it, it means the compound is in a hollowand the edges are supporting the HS.

Put more compound in? surely a thick layer of compound is better than some air in there?

Tried more compound made no difference. I tried the MX 1 stuff
I got with a freezer 4 but that stuff seems ro make no difference either. Nasty stuff very thick I prefer AS

Even stranger is that the temps have gone up at first the
thing at stock would be 25 idle now its 35 TAT says 45 in
windows idle. Now that is crap.

Tjunction in core temp is at 100 degrees now is that what its supposed to be.

I lowered it to stock and under volted to 1.075 V which is pretty low its orthos stable but its still 45 degree idle.

45 seems high idle. I get 48 at 3ghz.

my e6600 is pretty bad too - but bought it last year, and still manage a 49.999% overclock from it with 'reasonable' volts.

Lap it, dude. I'm sure you'll be happy with your temps afterwards if it's truly shaped like a salad bowl (my q6600 was as well). I'd also recommend that you lap the HS as well.

I think I will eventually lap it, If it had been a cheaper E2xxx i would have popped the IHS off.

The IHS is internally soldered.

The E6xxx has the epoxy but the E4300, apparently, uses just a thermal grease which is why
they dont clock as well as they once did. Allegedly makes it much easier to take off.

I am assuming that the E2xxx also use the grease.
