Dell E207WFP or...

I am looking to buy a new monitor to replace my Samsung 930BF (19" 1280*1024). My friend has a Dell E207WFP (20.1" widescreen, 1680*1050) and it seems like a nice monitor to me.

The E207WFP can be had here http://www.overclockers.co.uk/produc...ortby=priceAsc
for £193.86, however there are several oth monitors for simillar prices on that page, with the equal or better specs.

in particualr looks like a good deal as it is £23 cheaper than the Dell and supposedly has a much higher contrast ratio. However, I have not seen this monitor in use in real life.

Should I get the Dell or is there something better?

I would go for 'or'. There have been some bad reviews of the dell.

On the other hand, I did just by the LG L204WT you mention (though from somewhere cheaper) and it's a cracking monitor. Takes a little while to warm up and the stand is a bit cheap, but it's a very good monitor.
Note the contrast ratio is actually only 700:1 or so, the 2000:1 is fake through dynamic contrast (backlight variability) and can't be seen on screen at the same time.

At my current settings it's taking about 10 minutes.

You wouldn't notice most likely - I'm just a nut for colour depth. It looks great from the start, but colours aren't quite a vibrant as my CRT. I thought that was just the result of it being LCD, but after a while they get better.

The dell is just meant to be poor for colours and backlight bleeding. That said I'm struggling to find the reviews I based my opinion on so I could be out of date - Dell also tend to revise their models a lot.

reading up on the e207wfp was a challenge as there is not much about apart from pcpro reviews

Thanks for the 2007wfp sugesstions, but it's a bit out of my price range I'm afraid.
From what I've read of the LG it looks very good, I think I'm going to go for it!

If you've got the space I can wholeheartedly recommend the LG L226WTQ. £204 at the minute but wait until the weekend as it'll almost certainly be on Today Only (especially if you request it).

I'd rather have the higher pixel density you get with the smaller monitor, I play a lot of games and I find that where AA can't always get rid of annying shimmery lines, higher pixel density can.

2007wfp would be a good choice then, or otherwise you are looking at a 24 inch model

Yep I'm exactly the same, which is why I went for the L204 Can still see jaggies, but it's much less noticeable than on higher dot pitch monitors.

Nice price! I would have probably gone for that if it hadn't been so expensive when I was looking.
