    Specific laptop requirments recommendations

    Guys,

I'm looking to replace my MSI S260 laptop.

I have very specific requirments and I'd appriciate options.

I am looking for a 12.1 widescreen laptop with a high quality screen ( true black or what ever this weeksn buzz word is)

The capability to accept 2 gig of ram
a reasonable size hard disks 60-120 gig (100 would be ideal)

Long battery - my S260 had an 8 cell battery which lastest a good 5 hours something around that would be perfect

    As light as possible

    DVD burner drive
    Intel wirless card
Most importantly intel chipsets all around

So far I'm looking at the latest revisions of the MSI S262 laptop, I've also looked at the dell versions and the Sony 13'' version. Both of these seem quite chunky and big.

I've also got a mac book on my lap at the moment which is 13'' but considering the screen is 13''' the chassis around it is massive.

I'd really appriciate options and opinions from people who keep up to date with laptops.

well next week the dell xps 1330 comes out.

Its a 13" screen.. thin and light..looks a lot better than any dells..errr..ever lol.

It has the santa rosa chips so upto 2.4GHz 800mhz fsb
It will have 2gb of ram
up to 250gb HD or a 32gb solid state
Led back lighting and almost certainly be offered with a 9 cell battery.

also has a geforce 8400 (unconfirmed model as yet..gs/get etc..)

I dare say its going to get well into the 6 hours mark if not more. It's my next laptop it its a fair price.

Samsung have done some nice little laptops. q45 is a good balance of specs and price I think.. its a santa rosa based one again with the integrated x3100 gfx.

Sony CR will be finding its way here soon enough probably. 13" santa rosa with geforce 8400 again lol.

plenty more around from asus, toshiba etc..

  3. Received thanks from:

The Nvidia graphics card (although a massive better option for me than any ati versions) was a little bit of a turn off, I was looking towards and intel on board chipset more, but it is a valud option.

I've not seen any of the Samsungs with any reasonable intel chispets on they all appear to be (for me) non-compatible.

I'll see if I can find any info on the new dell as there was nothing on the site for the last few days.

    Thank you for the feedback

I thought the 8400 would be a plus I should have said it's only an option..it'll come with the x3100 integrated gfx if you want it.

This is the samsung..its got a reasonable spec.. santa rosa 1.8 and x3100 gfx.

try to buy a laptop without a glossy screen, total waste of time when theres a light source behind you !

unless you want to use the latop screen as mirror, never did figure out why they came up with that idea...

I have the Q45 (bought from this lovely lady) and it is a very good lappy. Fast, small and has all intel chipsets! Darn good price too. She also lists the Q70 which may be worth a look with its 13" screen.
    Not around too often!

LED backlit screen is optional and if you go with it, your built in webcam will have to be the 0.3mp option instead of the 2mp option.

Didnt see the remote, but that looks interesting. The stated battery life of 7hrs looks promising, although thats likely to reduce if you have the normal screen or the nvidia gfx installed.

If it comes out around the same price as a 1210 is now, it will be a great buy.

    Specced it this morning.

I 'd rather it had no webcam at all.. but 0.3mp would be fine by me.

The remote is inside the express card slot.. pretty kool.

The first reviews said the battery life with half brightness and the 8400gs were around 5 hours idle with the 9 cell battery which is pretty good.

    My spec was

    2.2Ghz
    2GB of ram
    200gb 7200rpm HD
    8400gs
    LED Screen
    Bluetooth + normal wifi
    9 cell battery
    4 years warranty

£1700... not great but i'm waiting on my contact at dell to see if I can get that down a bit.
