Windows 7 and soundblaster cards question

I was looking to get an old discontinued X-Fi Xtreme Music Soundblaster card. But all I can find are the newer Xtreme Auido, that dont seem to have the EAX 5.0 nor any hardware acceleration.
But aint Windows7 like vista and uses software to run all its soundfiles?

So Im wondering, is it worth trying to find the older Music card, or will the new Audio card perform better under Windows7?

And further, will the X-Fi Xtreme Gamer card, with its on-board memory, be useless under Windows 7 if all sound is software driven???

works really well with the danielK drivers to give you all the functions you had on XP, was using it myself until the new video cards made it homeless !

DirectSound 3D lost hardware acceleration in Vista or later. However, OpenAL still supports hardware acceleration.

Creative's Alchemy software translates DirectSound 3D calls to OpenAL calls, and thus (for most games) hardware acceleration is still present.

The onboard X-Ram memory isn't used in many games.

Arr, this is making it hard. Still dont know if the new Creative audio cards are better than the older ones. How about EAX 5?

So the new softwware ones, dont add load to the CPU? - and what about EAX 5? I cant see that mentioned in the new audio cards....dont that work with windows 7 or something?
