    P35 vs 965

    hello,

Is there much of a difference (tecchnically) between the P35 chipset, and the 965 chipset? Can the P35 really be considered any more future proof?

I'm looking at these two boards:

    Or:

    Thanks!

I dont understand, if you are looking at these two boards, what is the other post about with the two different P5Bs?

Will you be buying a penryn processor?

Will you be wanting to squeeze every last drop out of your processor and ram?

If the answer to either of those questions is yes, then go P35.

    If no, go 965.

    Two P5B's?

You mean two P5K's? The reason is I'm changing my mind every 10 min. I'm posting about everything to see if I can get to a final decision. I now know which P35 to go for, if I go for a P35.

Firstly dude, can you explain to me what a penryn CPU is?

    Thanks for the help!

    Yes, P5Ks.

Penryn is the new 45nm core.

Have a google, loads of info.

I've looked it up, you are on about Wolfdale etc, right?

Will the 965 not be compatible with it then?

Yes, and it is doubtful that 965 boards will support these as the power requirements will be different, but we will have to wait and see.

    X38

I'd been itching to see the P35 and although I'd buy it over the 965 now, it's not got that wow factor. I'm holding out to see what Asus offer with the X38 - Dual *16 crossfire and DDR 1600 support is good for starters.

Also the talk of pre-fitted DDR3 1600 on a P5K3 is probably worth checking out (if it does go into production).

I know DDR3 is stupid money and these high Latencies don't do it justice but DDR2s halved in price the last few months. Who knows what will happen with DDR3 prices?
(Yer Yer, I know, it's gonna be be the latest must have, so they'll take the p**s with the price!).

Still if you constantly hold out for the next phase you never buy anything!!
