    E6750 ... a bargain in the making?

Looks like quite a nice cpu. Similar (if not greater) performance as that of the E6700 at stock, but to be brought in at the same sort of price as the E6420 sells now! 1333fsb part, so perhaps less OC headroom with cheaper PC6400 ram (though...3.2GHz@mobo fsb=400 [1600cpu, 800ram?]) but if it's got E6700 performance out of the box that's not a bad place to start anyway!

Yeah with PC6400 you're looking at 3.2GHz, these price cuts are amazing - roll on July 22nd!

sounds good enough to me! I'd hope cooler running at that speed than e4300/e6400 too? Hopefully availability will be rapid, and v.early in Q3! July is Q3 right? Woohoo.

ermm drooling over new Intel cpu's........................well as the E4300 is so overclockable esp to 3ghz, then most people should think "In the real world, what benefit am I going to get by spending more money on a different cpu".

I read recently increasing the speed of a Cpu say from 3ghz to 3.2ghz made no diference in at least one popular game.

overclocks are not guaranteed (even if they are likely), probably necessitate a better cooling solution (which may be a problem with some cases), and as prices do not decrease linearly across the board it means the range of prices is compressed, making the guaranteed higher-stock cpus a more attractive option than they once were. If you use your pc for things other than games you might like the stability at stock, the extra cache, and the ability to "do" virtualisation (...whatever virtualisation is good for!).

3-3.2 is less than 10% and by that rule of thumb you are unlikely to notice. The real trick of the e4300 is going from 1.8 to 2.4-3.0 where you really should notice some difference. Games seem to be more gpu limited these days anyway so from that POV you might as well get an E2160, overclock it, and be done with it - cheaper but almost as good value as the e4300. The 4Mb cache pushes up the performance a bit (at the same clock) and the higher fsb of the 6750 appears to help in some applications too. At the end of the day if it depends on your budget.

More choice at reasonable prices is a good thing

Update: Once the E6550 is released it should start selling for just $160 US which is less than that of the current E6300 processors! Around the same time the E6600 will fall to around $220 US making it 38% more expensive than the E6550. Given the performance difference between these two processors the E6550 is certainly going to be a better buy if these prices are put into action. Overclockers are still going to want to wait and see what numbers the E6550 can produce but for general users it seems like a bargain!
