Is it possible to flash BIOS from USB floppy drive?

Need to update P5B deluxe BIOS due to RAM issues, and wondered if it's possible to do from a USB floppy drive. Have an internal floppy drive in loft, but would rather not get it and install it if it can be helped. Yes I am feeling lazy

i think you can flash them from usb memory key. so in theary you could.clunk should be along . p5b's are his speciality

Yes, extract the BIOS rom file to a usb stick.

Go into the BIOS>Tools>EZ Flash.

Locate the BIOS file on your USB stick and away you go.

You might have to enable legacy USB, sometimes it can be a bit fussy about seeing the stick (well mine were).

It doesn't need to be a boot device.
Either:-
[Alt] & [F2] on boot
or
enter Bios & select - Tools - EZFlash2

You can then navigate to the loacation of your bios file. As long as it's on a fat format, drive , you can access it. So a usb drive, floppy disk or small fat partition on hard drive

One selected & confirmed flash goes through.

I must admit this is a great feature that asus have.

How I made mine bootable:

1: Created virtual floppy drive.
2: Formatted virtual floppy drive with DOS startup tickbox.
3: Copied boot info from virtual floppy onto flash drive.
4: Copied files from virtual floppy onto flash drive.
5: ???
6: PROFIT!

Doesnt need to be bootable as you arent booting from it.

The legacy USB thing can be a fickle thing, and sometimes, it just likes to be enabled/disabled to see the drive when you are in EZ flash.

This goes for all the recent C2D boards that Ive used that have EZ Flash

I don't know about the P5B but I've booted both laptops and PC's off a USB floopy before.
Main two setting needed were.
Legacy USB, On
Seek floopy dirve, On

You can boot the P5B from a USB stick if you want to, but for flashing the Bios, you dont need to.

Oooo just read up on EZ Flash, that's a really nice feature.

Should work off a USB floppy as long as it'll fit on a floppy disk, how much do you want to bet we'll see BIOS's over 2mb in size soon.

Sorry to hijack thread but I'm trying to flash a p5b deluxe using ezflash and a usb drive. I've downloaded the latest version (1405) but I keep getting the message "incompatible bios version". The bios file should be the "all OS" one and not the "dos" one, right?

I don't know what I'm doing wrong and am scared I'm gonna knacker my new pc. Help!

Dont forget that the bios file is zipped up, so you need to extract it to your USB stick/floppy drive.

That link that you posted is for the P5B, not the P5B deluxe wifi.

BIOS 1101 is what you need.
