    Oone side of the socket (the black plastic border of it) is bent in like so, but the cpu still fits in snugly

    righto got a response from the abit forums saying the p35 chipset only supports 533hmz ram running at 667 even though the product clearly states on scan and the abit site its compatible with 533mhz ram, does this sound at all plausable?

    Yes, the Asus P5K boards are like that, but I wouldnt have thought that it would stop it from booting up...it is a possibility though.

    No spare ram to try?

    aye it was the problem in the end.....all that troubleshooting and such a simple solution
