Quiet PSU

Just out of interest really... not any actual purpose to this post.

What is the quietest PSU @ around 500-600w? Scan dont seem to include dB changes in thier spec list and just wondered if anyone knows where you can find out or if they have any details themselfs?

Also does anyone know of any completely silent fanless PSUs that are worth their money?

When it comes to quiet computers always give silentpcreview a look. They give reliable sound readings (and comment on sound characteristics) of PSUs at different loads. See here.

You won't go far wrong with a Corsair HX520 or HX620.

Buying a PSU with a bit of spare capacity, so you're not pushing it too hard, will also help with noise. Pushing a PSU hard will increase temps which will of course increase fan noise as they're temperature controlled.

I agree, I was amazed at how quiet modern PSUs are when I installed a HX520 last week. Plus you get those 105 degree centigrade capacitors with it (most are 85 iirc). Not to sure if that makes much of a difference though tbh.

Those Corsair models are made by seasonic who have been at the forefront of quiet PSUs for ages. You cant go wrong with them. You'll see they top SPCRs list of 400w+ PSUs.

With regards fanless power supplies I believe the following are supposed to be very good

Silverstone Night Jar 300W
FSP/Fortron Zen 300W

I think both now come in 400 Watt models as well.

Still need a bit of airflow so will need a fan, but the setup can still be quiet.
