    PSU Recommendations

    Hi,

I am looking to build a new system based around the following components but looking for a decent and quietish PSU:

    QX6800 or QX6850
    8800 Ultra
    Asus P5K3 Deluxe
    2 x 150GB Raptor
    Samsung SH-S203
Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Pro

All to be housed in an Antec P182.

    Anyone with any recommendations please?

Something in the region of an 700 - 800w enermax.

Should do the job and leave room for more.

I don't know specific models though.

My OCZ gameXstream 700w is very quiet and would probably manage that to...I think they just brought out some new models.

Bare minimum I would use is a 620w corsair HX Whisper. They are basically silent and have been proven to run GTX's in SLi I think so would probably cover it.

    Hi,

Yeah I know it only takes the DDR3 ram, I have ordered the board with the ram from Scan. It may not be the best ram in the world but can replace it later down the road.

To be honest, even with that system, you dont actually *need* something like a Galaxy 850w, but at the prices on the today only offer are a bargain.

The Galaxy will give you enough wires and connectors so that you wont ever run out, and will leave you plenty of overhead for future upgrades.

    Hi,

I had already ordered parts, for some crazy reason I went for the P190 but just read up a bit more and changed my mind back to the P182. As the order will not be on Scans system until tomorrow (just called them) I need to make my final decision and call back to change the case fof the P182 and a PSU of some description.

Does anyone know if the Galaxy be ok in the Antec P182 with the PSU being at the bottom?

I don't know how close the 182 is to the 180 layout, but I have the 720W Infiniti with the P180 (how annoying is that? Bought it last week from Scan, and there it is on special offer today), and even that's a little cramped down below due to where the fan-support structure sits in the bottom compartment. If this is still there in the P182, then I'd be very wary of getting one of the Galaxy PSUs as they appear to be quite a lot longer, so I can't imagine it'd be comfortable working with them at all...

personally i would avoid this aswell... Creative XFI's are nothing but trouble

If you are using Vista then definately avoid because creative are putting no work into making the drivers decent.

I already have this in my current system running under Vista and not had any major problems since the latest drivers - just 1 of the 7.1 surround speakers I have refuses to make any noise (its not the speaker as tested that plugged in else where).

I don't know for sure but I reckon you will have real trouble with the galaxy in a p182 if you leave the bottom fan in..otherwise it would be fine.

Good point, I didnt see the P182 bit.

In that case, I would say that the Infiniti 720w. is a better bet.

I'd go with either the infinity or the corsair 620w.. both will do the job well
