    Mouse mats!

    Afternoon all,

After finally getting sick to death of my wireless mouse being dreadful for online gaming I've decided to get myself a logitech MX518. My question is whether or not having a 'gaming' mouse mat makes any difference? I have a smooth wooden surface on my desk and have found it the best for my dreadful wireless mouse but I've seen a lot of praise for the Icemat 2 on here... but really £25 for a mouse mat, is it really going to make any difference? It's also a bit massive for my desk really so if you feel a mat would really help then any recommendations for a smaller mat.

    Thanking you lots.

Plumped for the l337 one even though I feel sort of sick after tacitly condoning their marketing by buying one. Is it just me who has an uncontrollable urge to hurt people who say 'l337, teh, pwned, n00b' etc?

Another vote for the Sharkoon 1337 mat, it works great with my MX518.

i like the retro feel of the ALLSOP mat - i know they're made for ball mice, but I hate the plastic feel of the new laser ones - this is a nice cloth finish.

I've heard Steelpad S+S's are pretty slick.
ICEMAT 2nd edition would go well with your mx518 though
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have a fUnc sUrface 1030. Have had it for around 2-3years now, and it's still going strong! Nice mat, has a smooth side and a rougher side, both nice depending on what you like best. My smooth side got too shiny after excessive mastu-- counter-strike, which made my mouse act weird on it, so i've been using the rougher side for a long time now and it's excellent. Haven't had any experience with the other "performance" mats such as Steelpad, Icemat etc though, so I can't compare .

I have a Logitech G5 on my main PC and a Logitech MX518 on my laptop. I must say, I like the accuracy of the G5 and it feels lighter and easier to handle, but the scroller wheel can move side to side which can be annoying when clicking it (although you get used to it after a while).

The MX518 is a good mouse, I would use it if I didn't have this G5. The mouse is very dependant on the suface is on. I have the Sharkoon 1337 mat, pretty good.

The razer eXactmat is brilliant albeit a little pricey. The newest incarnation comes with a wrist rest that is the best I've ever used. Nice and wide, and it just fits to your arm.

Also has two surfaces which can be used for 'precision' or 'speed' apparently! personally I prefer the 'speed' side, but thats because the 'precision' side is slightly rougher and feels like it's eroding my mouses feet!
(If you're doing pixel by pixel graphics work, i expect the precision side is more use)

I would definitely recommend one as with mousemats, if you get a good one, it will last you years.
I have an old gigantica mat, first edition, which I've had for close to six years now, and I've only replaced it with another cos the misses wanted something better than her wooden table.
