    P5K Deluxe & Core 2 Duo E6600 Configs

Hmm ... well I have a very noob question, but I believe that I better make sure I'm not doing something wrong to my new little cpu/mobo/mem system.

    CPU: C2D E6600 @ 2.4GHz
    M/B: Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi
MEM: Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500 2GB Kit

What would be the correct configurations in order to get the stock 2.4GHz? That is, what are the DRAM settings and such that I need to set in the BIOS to reach 2.4GHz?

By default, it seems that the BIOS sets everything to 1603 MHz core speed... (as displayed in CPU-Z) with little jumps to the ~ 2400 MHz from time to time (with the multiplier increasing from 6 to 9).

CPU-z also reports my MEM to be @ 400.9 MHz, with a FSB : DRAM of 2:3, CAS latency of 33 clocks as well a DDR3 type of memory (Mine are DDR2 afaik, though). It also says that my MEM sticks are PC2-6400 (400MHz)

I'm a bit confused. Can someone help me understand what's "wrong" and what should be done to get the stock 2.4GHz out of my system.

    Cheers

That is just speedstep and eist lowering the CPU speed at idle.

Put the CPU under load and youll see it jump to 2400mhz.

The RAM will always default to PC2-6400 because there is no official JEDEC spec for PC2-8500, so you have to set a divider yourself, or if you are overclocking, the RAM speed will rise as you up the FSB.

Thanks for the quick reply Clunk I thought so, but I was unsure about the "little" jumps from 1600 MHz to 2400MHz

So, are these configs ok? I mean:

    - Bus Speed: 267.3 MHz
    - Rated FSB: 1069.1 MHz
    - Multiplier: x6.0

Anything I should set in the BIOS to keep it @ 2.4GHz all the time?

    Thanks

The Multiplier is actually 9x when its at 2400mhz, it just drops to 6x when the eist/speedstep kicks in. You can disable these in the bios.

Have a look at the links in my sig

Yeah the defaults without speedstep should be (rounded)

    FSB: 266
    Rated FSB: 1066
    Multiplier: 9x

I find it amazing that intel managed to market an underclocking thing like 'mobile technology' in laptops as something you would benefit from :s
(I suppose it would help your power consumption a little) personally I don't like to change processor speeds on the fly as it smacks of using a dimmer switch on your lights. I just want on or off please!
