    Logitech Z5500s

Someone I work with has offered me a deal on a p/x...

My Logitech Z2300s...(2.1) set in p/x for Logitech Z5500s (5.1)....

The deal is £55 plus my speakers for the Z5500s....

Does that sound like a good deal?

Also, is it possible to mount the satellite speakers (Z5500 Sats) on freestanding speaker stands??

Dunno about the deal but you can only attach them providing you keep them on the stands they come with. If you try to remove them the nut/bolt/metal bit that's inside ends up rolling around loose in the casing and either you can't get it out, or it's a real mare (can't remember which...).

    Hmm...thanks mate.

I've had a look on the Logitech site and the video demo shows the satellites on stands.

Does anyone have any experience of the Z5500s?? Would be very interested in some good honest hexus feedback on their performance....and whether the deal mentioned in my first post is a goer.

    Cheers

    I dont get no humming....
Hmm possible interference, where have u got it in your room and whats around it?
Just to help i have mine next to a wall with no electrical equipment withing 1m-1.5m

Try moving it around and see if u still get it. Also check the wiring, as when mine came the bare wires at the end where longer than the crimp connection on the back of the sub and small speakers. They do show abit now by like 2mm.

EDIT: Please can you report back btw
Also try removing only stuff connected to it like DVD player, tv etc and leave just the speakers connected up. Still get the humming? try now removing each smaller speakers one by one and see if one of them are giving you problems.

The sub sits below a table....my pc sits on top of the table.

Directly behind the sub I have a power surge unit into which all of my PC related plugs are plugged before they're then connected to the wall.

If I unplug the 3 cables from the rear of the x-fi I don't get any buzzing.

Perhaps I need to re-do the wire ends....I have about 1cm of bare wire exposed on each cable end.

The hum is well annoying too!

    1cm!!!!!!!!!!
    WOW!
well it makes up for the awsome speakers logitech have made

KK so we know it from your PC.

Now try the following BEFORE you sort those wires out by chopping abit off:

1.Double click the volume icon in system tray and mute the "Volume Control" bit.
Do you still get that buzz?

If not then try shortening those wires so hardly any is outside the crim socket.

EDIT: Also try movinng the sub away from the pc...i know we found out its from the X-FI but just have a quick look as it may help us diagnose the problem easier.

Just tried that bud, no joy...still getting the annoying hum from the sub.

The satellite speakers look nice imo.

I once was told that the hum or hiss coming from the sub is a small hole in the cone.
My sub hisses on my altech 2.1's but the bass it produces is fine, so I dont think its a big deal.
