Yes, isoproxy alcohol is probably the best thing to use. If you can't get a hold of it then Akasa TIM cleaner works very well too. Just make sure you give the parts a good scrub dry and time for the chemicals to dissipate before repasting.

Try wipe most of the gunk off with some kitchen towel, then wipe down with some Isopropyle Alcohol. Surgical spirit or even Vodka would do it I guess

Vodka is too impure, surgical spirit or rubbing alcohol is the best thing to use...

..exactly as I told you on the phone

tim cleaner and the wifes credit card
Na, you use credit card to apply
isoproxy alcohol especially as it's better & cheaper than the stuff sold by the likes of akasa etc.,

I have some Akasa TIM clean that I got ages ago when I bought my Athlon XP 2400+ system which I use. There is probably better, like others said above, but I can recommend it as being good ^^:

isoproxy alcohol especially as it's better & cheaper than the stuff sold by the likes of akasa etc.
I even use it for cleaning my mouse mat o.o.
