anything like a sonos remote or hack one up?

you know the sonos stuff with lovely wifi interactive remote, is there any pda's with wifi that can be bodged up to work like the sonos ?

youd thing by now something like this would be popular as a pc remote with a little screen giving you feedback

yeh i remember seeing that remote on another hardware site a while back i dont think it communicates with the pc though, as in sends back what film or music track you are playing or displays a playlist you can scroll up and down and tap it i think thats whats the sonos does possibly more little tricks aswell

for this im sure it needs wifi ability, i knew the harmony operated on rf signals but i didnt know it could command them would be handy for the remote controlled power sockets i have that are rf controlled
and my lcd telly remote is crap well that or the sensor on the tv and those kind of remotes usually have high power ir emmitters so could be worth a look for the combined rf and ir ability!

There are remotes out there that let you do things like what you want, but are usually tied to specific software. For example, you can use a Nokia 770 web tablet with a specific skin for the Slimserver interface for controlling one or many Squeezeboxes (including viewing album art), but you wouldn't be able to control your TV with it.

hmm never thought of the 770 i think there is a newer version of it in the works aswell? ive read some good things about them in the past and there is alot of hacks for them if i remember right because it is linux based,

im of on ebay see how much a second hand one is i might have a play with them

oh i dont need to control my tv really as its all media centres i have so if something could be wrote to sit on the media centre and send back info about whats playing or allow me to browse my media and then turn select it without leaving what im watching or listening to untill i have made my selection as im pretty happy with the mce remote for general tasks , but i still want some touchy screeny gadget to play with!

yeah, there is a new version in the works, not a lot of info about it though.

Two little posts about it on Engadget:

It all depends on what you want to control, but I am almost certain that there is software for controlling windows and windows applications with Windows Mobile 5 devices etc. Your best bet is to head over to http://forum.xda-developers.com.

But funnily enough, i was reading up on Vista at work today and one feature that will be coming, although not necessarily at launch, is the concept of 'Extended Screens' (can't remember if that exactly the right term), which is for things like small embedded screens on the outer casing of laptops and using PDA's etc as an extra screen.

sounds good vista should bring alot of goodies ...

i know you can get that bemused or something like that for s60 phones which controls winamp or the pc via bluetooth and there is other ones which plant a server on your pc and you just view it via the internet but this sort of thing really needs a touch screen to help with navigation and selections

something like windows mobile would be handy i had one of those xda 2 things good toy but i sold it as i was getting a n80 and n91 and my pockets were getting a bit crowded !

I know you can get the 770 pretty cheap now, but the N800 is a better device. Quite a bit faster and better support for memory cards. The latest software update for it has a Skype client, support for 8GB SDHC cards and performance is improved all round. There is also a GPS navigation kit for it.

    770 is 80 quid on expansys atm.... 800 is still £200 +

is the link to the skin...

you can set it up with the n770 to see how it would work and just open it in your normal browser.
the browsing albums via Album letter and then the cover looks quite nice...

the skin for slimserver is pretty sweet. but you dont have to use that, any thing with a webserver will do. Ive been using my phone to access my xbox (with xbmc) webserver recently and its a pretty funky combo
