    8800GTX/Ultra with the P5K-E, careful!

    hello,

I have an order with Scan for a PC, and it has been delayed due to the fact that the 8800 ultra card is actually covering some of the SATA ports. Of course, they've sorted it out with a new motherboard etc, but I would strongly advise everybody to be careful when they consider this combination!!!

This has put me off ASUS for life.

Pretty surprising how such a major manufacturer couldn't see this coming.

Anyone had any experiences like this with this motherboard and card?

EDIT: Looks like SCAN have updated their pages:

have you tried using the two low-profile 90degree sata2 cables with it? one will have the wire coming off the motherboard, and you will have to have the other one have its wire coming over the top. This SHOULD fit.

it would be possible to use 90° cables but this would cover 2 of the SATA ports rendering them useless no good if you want to add extra drives.

if you did it as i said you wouldnt be covering the two ports - you can always use normal-height 90degree cables on top of the smaller-height 90degree cables - you wont lose ports.

if the normal-size 90degree cables dont fit, then use the two lower-profile cables, and have one of the cables turn back on itself, hence allowing you to hopefully use them all.

It is a widely discussed problem. I'm surprised that you missed it.

You could always grab a GTX and overclock it. The cooler isnt as long, and it is just doable with the supplied cables, or if you fit a waterblock, this also leaves the sata slots open. Its still tight, but as I say, it is doable

well suicidal the deluxe version does have this problem too.

if I was buying a board right now at this moment, i would get the asus blitz because they have the sata's at 90degrees. the other things are a bonus for me.
