    Linux Quiet Box

Right, Im kinda getting tired of swapping from windows to linux all the time, I want to be able to do both.

All that I want is, a decent performing (1-1.5Ghz w/256Mb) QUIET box.

Quiet includes the sound level of the HDD and cooling fans.

    The quieter the better.

Im thinking El Cheapo Motherboard, overclocking isnt a requirement.

I have been looking at this one.

Graphics quality wont be great, but I dont really need it to be.

All I need other than that is a KVM (Maybe), Memory, Soundcard (want it to have 5.1).

Ive got a HDD I can use its a 3Gig BEAST...

    Memory, Crucial 256MB PC2700
    Soundcard, Creative Live! Digi

    Mobo (£30 INC)
    Duron 1.6 (£30 INC)
HSF -- Really in a pickle about this one, question to follow
    Memory (£30 INC)
    SoundCard (£30ish)
Case (£30 ish--Mmmm Cut Fingers, might have one though...)

So, all In all its gonna cost me roughly £150 without a HSF.

    Now, the good part.

What HSF Can I get that will be as quiet as possible, and as cheap as possible?

I open the floor to the guru's of the forums,

    Thanks,
    THCi.

Get a cheap HSF, and stick a larger 80mm fan on it that runs quiet (or mod the fan to run at 7V.)

£30 for a case? Are you mad, that's proper steep!
    Check this.

Or just buy another hard disk and dual-boot. Your choice.

I suspect that's what he's doing now - but is tired of rebooting and all that.

    Yes I am.

Plus, the nForce Hardware isnt exaclty liked by Linux. Its a pain in the arse, building, rebuilding, and then rebuilding again. I havnt got the patience yet to go through all that.

A seperate machine on my desk, just for linux and working as a network server will be much better.

Im gonna nick my dads HDD from his machine downstairs so it will be 60+80Gb storage.
