My 1st day of overclocking

I decided to overclock my A64 3700+ as I don't really need dual core at present (might see whats on the market in terms of C2D in 6-12 moths time)
Anyway, I've never overclocked before and I tried it out. I tried three different settings and the last one I done was going from 2.2ghz to 2.8ghz. Had to use the memory divider so the ram is now @ 165mhz (330mhz).

Went from 4550 points in 3DMark06 to 4907.

Tired now and I'll need to work tomorrow so will try and experiment more over the weekend.
Any suggestions would be great!

2.2->2.8 is already good. To be honest, i am a total douche when it comes to AMD systems,

that's with the 133, the 166 should put you bang on 200.

Use SP2004 to test for stability - it's not a real overclock until you do.

yup, didn't get much time last night as it was late and was working all day today. Just got in but will eb out again in half hour or so.

Ran Stress Prime and ran into some error

FATAL ERROR: Rounding wa 0.49, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected

(7mins, 31 secs using blend test@ 2805mhz, 200mhz Ram)
Everything else ran fine; games, 3dMark, Super Pi, etc


Tried some other combinations but ended up with 2750mhz (2.75ghz) & ram at 2:3 (161mhz)
Not played around further though

Any reason for the 133 divider? Vcore would also help to know

I've not increased any voltage. It's at stock (1.40v)

As for the 133 divider it seems to work more stable than 166. I'm note sure whether itse because of my value ram..

You'll not get 2.8GHz on stock, no way. Crank it up a bit.

Yes try a bit more voltage, and try 3xhtt and a 166 divider

I'm currently running SP2004 using the following:

FSB 255 (x11= 2.805ghz) 2.8ghz on stock volts
ram @ 133 = 165mhz (330mhz DDR)

Just gone 50 mins and still running

ATI Tray tools temp = 45.5 Celsius
Core Temp = 44 Celsius

Room temp 29.2 Celsius



Which option do I need to change the htt to x3 (it's x4 at the moment right?)


EDIT: How long should I really be Stress priming for?

Set the memory divider to DDR333/166MHz, your RAM will be at stock then (200MHz).

Yeah the HT multiplier needs dropping from x4 to x3, it'll be somewhere in the BIOS.

24 hours is considered totally stable but leave it running overnight for a good idea.

Yup I did that but it wouldn't run SP2004 for long (I think 7 mins was longest) but everything else ran fine such as 3DMark06, Super Pi, some games s such as Lost Planet demo, etc.

That makes no sense, maybe up the memory voltage a bit then.
