    Read into this what you will.
    Its the first proper comparisons that i have found with any real substance.

    Also, bare in mind that on many of these benchmarks here 2900XT had its settings alot lower than the nVidia card so the tester could even start the game.

    The ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT is not even a match for even the much less expensive and much less power hungry 320 MB GeForce 8800 GTS.

    This last sentence says it all for me (at 1600x1200 or lower anyway) but make your mind up time

    And here everyone was hoping it would wipe the floor with the 8800!

    Even i'm gobsmacked and i don't like ATI cards

    i am quite pleased by all this as i got my 8800gts for just under £200 about 6 weeks before the launch of the 2900xt and everyone told me to wait for the ati

    but turns out i may have made the right choice as its cheaper and as good as the 2900 better in some instances

    just need them to get crysis out so we can see what they do in dx10

    I guess that finally settles it..... baring an amazing driver change from ATi there's little to no point to owning a HD 2900XT

    It also points out one other thing, to run Oblivion with 100% grass takes an 8800GTX

    I dunno how accurate all the tests were and who was on who's payroll, but from bare figures the 8800GTS 320mb, let alone the 640mb version, is a better card.

    Lets hope the poor showing from ATI is due to the AMD merger and that they will bounce back soon.
