And some photos please.
Hi, good news!
Firstly, the pic
It shows the position of the fans, and the direction, highlighted in yellow.
The one between the graphics card and the riser was a really close fit, the graphics card isn't quite fully in the pci-e riser, by a fraction of a millimetre, but it works! The other one is held to the 24-pin power lead with a cable tie!
Took some careful routing of cables to make it work, and I wasn't sure the 4-pin 12v supply to the motherboard would fit around the graphics card, and I couldn't put it undreneath, as there isn't enough clearance for the plug before the extension, and the fan I put in stops it going underneath the graphics card!
I left it running the DX10 lost planet benchmark for over half an hour, at default settings, and it averaged 17FPS in the snow, 23 FPS in the cave, with no probs. It got warm, but no probs with throttling. With some settings knocked down, and at 1280 x 720 (to be used on HDTV anyway) the game was going at about 35FPS, and was really playable.

Hi Sorry, ill try and get some photo's on here. I decided to ditch the flexi cable riser in the end and bought the left facing PCI-E riser from Linitx.com. Also glued 2 40mm fans just behind the hdd and optical cage to pull some air into the case. Seems to have worked. The all in wonder doesn't heat up as quickly as it used to.
Hey pick
Is your graphics card passively cooled?
Is it 256 or 512 Mb?
Did the installation of the fans help?
Is it cooler?
Cheers mate.
Hi,
it's an Xpert Vision geforce 8600GT with 256Mb. It is actively cooled, but the air just had nowhere to go without the extra fans. After the lost planet benchmark was left running, I'm fairly confident that the problem is solved, as there was no slowdown whatsoever, and the case didn't get anywhere near as hot to the tough as before.
Just installed a 8500Gt but passively cooled. Very pleased with the results. It really is a PS3 beater now, (except I don't have a blu-ray drive............yet!)
Hi ed_jrgibbs,
Which riser did you buy in the end from linitx? Did the flexi cable one not work well?
Thanks
Chris
I own a PC that changes regularly, so I don't bother putting anything in here...
Hi, yeah the flexi riser was touch too bulky even with the shortest cable. I went for the left facing rigid one in the end. Works pretty well.
hi all, very pleased to find this forum - and very pleased to find that the hiper psu will drive an 8600gt without issue.
has any one got a flexi pci-x riser for sale, my MB has slot in wrong place!!
The PCI-E position is certainly something they don't warn you about!
I was lucky enough to be building another micro-atx pc at the same time, spotted the issue, and bought a suitable motherboard.
I believe the one I got was a sapphire socket am2 690G with HDMI out (on a riser board). This worked without a problem, but make sure if you do squeeze the geforce in there you improve the airflow, like I had to (pics above)
Yes, the PCI-E position caught me out! I had to buy a new mobo to get mine in! It needs to be the closest slot to the top of the board, if you have a PCI-E x1 slot there then the riser won't work.

dont need airflow - its watercooled. got all me bits now- flexible riser 2 low profile waterblocks and a 7600gt. dunno when i'll get chance to fit it tho.
i'll post some pics when its done
Hi Sparky
What water cooling solution are you using? With my ATI AIW, the case is still pretty hot even with the 40mm fans.
Cheers
i'll do a new thread - going a bit off topic aren't we
