I decided to give Vista a try on my HTPC, but it wont boot from DVD!! However, if I put a CD in then it will boot from that no problem.
Ive made sure the boot prioriy is correct in the BIOS and have tried 2 DVD drives and different media.
The mobo is an Asus P4P800-VM with the latest BIOS (v1018)
Any ideas? Im totally miffed

I had this exact same problem with another computer..... never found out what the problem was, installed it from the desktop and it worked fine..... very odd.
Got this fixed now. What a saga!!
I had to rip the original Vista DVD using Alcohol on my main PC, transfer the image to the HTPC. Use the HTPC DVDRW to burn a new Vista DVD from the image, which worked!?!
As a matter of interest, did you use the same media as the original DVD you tried, or was that a proper pressed DVD. I find machines can be sensitive to media brands, and dvd writers, and combinations of.
I never touch my original Vista DVD. I always run from backups to keep it mint and because I slipstream other programs, updates etc.
The backup Vista DVD I was using was on a HP DVDR, which worked fine on my main system, but the HTPC only read it as a blank DVD. I burnt the exact same DVD (via an image) on the HTPC, using the same HP DVDR media and it worked.
The main system has a Samsung SH-162L DVDRW and the HTPC has a Samsung SH-182M DVDRW, so why they dont read each others burns is beyond me.
On a side note, both drives have the latest firmware.

You should try slipstreaming. It makes installation alot easier and saves time. My XP CD is also on a CDR as its slipstreamed with SP2 and all the latest updates. All my slipstreamed version of XP and Vista are stored on my PC in images for quick easy burning
