sony vs mac
a bit goliath and goliath.
sorry its another inane post but payment options have restricted my choice and im torn between these two:
Sony VAIO FZ11L - Core 2 Duo T7100 1.8 GHz - 15.4" TFT - VGNFZ11L
and
Apple MacBook Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz - 13.3 Inch TFT - MB062B/A
i only used macs at uni for internet and some image stuff and have used windows forever, but im tied down to laptopsdirect for the best payment option and these were the two that appealed.
like most people i mostly use for internet, torrents, music, video but i also do a lot of photoshop. no gaming - i suck.
i'd be grateful for any insight.

Apple FTW, as it's a great Windows machine if need be too.

FZ looks quite good but id probably take the macbook..
THe FZ is more future proof (if a laptop can be) as it will have dx10 support but the macbook will perform better.

i got a core duo macbook not that long ago and absolutely love it:)

That's the same macbook that I have, and it is awesome :)

thanks for the input!
i can take 15 mins deciding what kind of margarine to buy so this is proving tricky.
the mac seems to be getting the most love so im swaying that way, but as my last computer was about 14 years old (when i took it to get an extra hard drive fitted i was told i could get classic insurance for it) longevity is important. would i get a few years out of the mac book or is that just unrealistic?
i wish i could build one but i'd probably just make a terminator.

The only apple laptop i have any experience with is a macbookpro ..pre intel. Thats still working today albeit with a few odd graphical glitches every now again..and its had a motherboard replaced...well supported if you have apple care though.
I'm using a vaio right now..it's about 4 years old now and i've never had a problem with it. I've left it on the bed overnight and its overheated etc..quite a few times..and still no problems..except some of the plastic bits inside have melted at the joints and fallen off lol.
They're built very well but obviously you only get a years warranty (poor service according to what i've read).

Apples have a good track record for still being useful several years down the line (some of the old iMacs are about 10 years old and still in use?) and I haven't heard many complaints when it comes down to reliability. I'd say that's why you pay through the nose for them :)
So long as you don't want the latest and greatest software in 10-15 years' time, even then it's not too bad, still see some Classic stuff.
