    Re: Insects in my monitor!

    Hi Dreaming,

I know this was ages ago but I have the same problem and am having trouble with Samsung who don't want to accept responsibility.

Could you possible send me a quick email explaining the circumstances under which you got the replacement done for free? THat may be enough to convince them! Thanks.

(not sure if i'm allowed to post email addresses here, ***Edited - please post a reply to this query***)

nscoppin - welcome to Hexus! Normally you would get some comment about resurrecting old threads - in this case it is legitimate - this problem seemds to crop up every year when the weather gets hot.

It is debatable whether it is grounds for return, there is no evidence that the insect was in the monitor - it may have got in there since you bought it.

if a bug can crawl in there the unit is not fit for the purpose as its not sealed.

The monitor itself won't be sealed - it has ventilation holes. The panel iself is a composite unit, and while the unit itself may be sealed, there is space round the bezel and the front screen where these tiny mites can get in. The heat from the backlight will kill them quite quickly (they don't live long anyway) once they have dried out a bit they may fall down out of sight.

I have PM'd dreaming asking him to comment here as it was to him that your orginal question was addressed.

    Hey nscoppin,

it depends on the time you have had the monitor. I had had mine for some time, so when I contacted the retailer (wizardprice) they said the warranty was now with samsung. I phoned samsung on their support number and explained the issue and they authorised an RMA on the spot. My only suggestion would be to phone, phone again as obviously it seems like they are authorising them in some cases and not in others, so it just depends who you get on the other end of the phone.

You could cite that you know for a fact that the problem has been repaired in the past, you can say it's definitely not user damage and it impedes your use of the screen, etc. etc.

    Good luck
