    Post Final Check

Ok , I plan on building a new computer soon but I need to just check up on a few final things.

This is what I have planned and it is my intention to overclock my system.

    Intel Core 2 Quad-Core Q6600 £217.85
    Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (1GB*2) *2. £169.18
Just got a Question, I plan for 4GB but I do not know if I should go 1GB*4 or 2GB*2? The thing is will 1GB*4 make it much harder to overclock or not?
And what state is 2GB*2 Ram at because I really haven't seen any reviews on any of them
    Asus P5K Deluxe £136.29
    320/640MB 8800GTS or 8800GTX, Not sure If i should go for the 8800GTX £182.11 £232.51 £316.06 respectively
    500 Gb Western Digital £62.22
620W Corsair HX £88.11 Will this be enough to power my system and hopefully an overclock.
    Antec P182 £80.95
    Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme £46.99
120mm Sharkoon *3 £20.70 The fans may not be quiet but they can move alot of air.
    Pioneer DVR-212BK £25.84
    Mitsumi FA404M £14.68
    Logitech G11 £35.19
    Logitech G5 £41.94
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 64Bit £112.74

Total £1,234.79 £1,285.19 £1,368.74 respectively depending on the GPU

    Any recommendations?

Final question, I have read a few guides on building a computer and have a anti-static band and have a few screwdrivers around somewhere
but would it be beneficial to get a cheap tool kit like a Maplin 23-Piece Computer Tool Kit or would it be a waste of money?

    Thanks for any help.

you picked pretty good components there, but one note, ignore the 8800GTS 640MB, it's pretty much pointless, so it's down to the GTS 320Mb or the GTX, and you'll probably do fine with the former, the latter would be good if you want high res (like 24" widescreen)/quality settings.

All you'll really need is a phillips head screwdriver to slap it together, maybe a pair of pliars to tighten the spacer studs on the case.

No recommendations really - in agreement with aidanjt with the tools, it usually doesn't take much although I have a cheap "PC Repair Toolkit" which my dad gave me for christmas last year, just take your time - at the end of the day, its just very expensive Lego, things generally only go in one way!

I'm also making a note of components your using, that seems a pretty good price for that spec. of machine, I shall revise my own 'New PC' spreadsheet when I get home

Edit: Having said that, I've got a £170 monitor included in my spec!

    Have fun

Ah yeah very good point, the Q6600 should be around £160 in a few weeks.

    19" Wide Screen 1440*900

It's just the Ram, I saw a thread in the Corsair memory that said that some boards have problems with 1GB*4 and even Corsair recommend 2Gb*2. It's just got me paranoid.

Corsair are using a selling tool and nothing more.
If all 4 sticks are the same then there will be no issues.

The plan is to get this one, but the final decision will be made about 2 seconds before I click the buy button on my monitor of choice - I'm pretty sure I'll be getting that one though

    Spreadsheets ftw!

I also had planned to get a Samsung monitor can't remember the model but when my old CRT stopped working I had to go down to PC World because I had coursework to finish so I got this for £200.

the antec comes with 3 case fans already that shift more air than those sharkoons, the antec fans have high, mid and low settings too so you can find a balance - no point buying the sharkoons

are you also going to be waiting for the intel price drops before buying the quad core?

Well the Antec also has space for 2 more fans and I need one for my CPU cooler. They shift more air? I will need to look that up.
The sharkoons can move 76.3 cfm of air according to scan.co.uk
Edit once more the TriCool 120mm fan moves 79 cfm. Still if I get one for my CPU cooler and one more for the P182 at least to go in the middle.

I do plan to wait for the price cuts

But I am wondering if I should order the rest of the equipment now and do a semi build and then order the CPU later so when it arrives I just fit it in and that's it. Or order it all together and hope that other components get cut in price also and save me a bit of cash.

sorry thought the heatsink came with a fan - it should for that price!

i would take all cfm ratings with a pinch of salt - they are all generally inaccurate

re more case fans - i assumed you were replacing the antec case fans with the sharkoons, not putting more in the case - which with the potential heat generated within the case would be a good idea

I take it you're opting for the Sharkoon 2000 Silent Eagle fans?

I'm sure the P182 was £73 on Today Only a few days ago so may be worthwhile (when you're in a position to place orders) to split them. You may save a few pounds.
