    Small, Silent PC

With the ever-nearing advent of a new PC for my, I'm starting to investigate moving the current machine into a SFF case, and using it as a testbed/file server etc, and try and implement some stuff from Direxthex's excellent Project Remyth - and we'll see how it goes

Anyways, I have all the components because it'll be from my old PC - although it has an ATX Motherboard, I have an old TIME PC with a uATX Motherboard that I'll use I think, I shall investigate the motherboard and see what its like.

So anyways, all I really need is a case/fans/new HD (IDE) to make it as silent a box as possible, and I'm looking for recommendations for all 3 parts (ooh, and a silent CPU cooler - I have a Zalman cooler on justnow thats pretty quiet though, could just use it), because I'm not well informed with Quiet computing tbh, so any advice is welcomed

    Fire away!

    This might do the job

Theres lots of variations of this case from varying manafacturers. Key point is it has a 120mm fan on the back and the big boy on top (although you can get the same case just with a window in its place)

I believe someone on here bought one and was using a thermaltake blue orb cooler.

I might be being a bit silly, but did you post the right link there?

Its supposed to be a decent case and given the price its by far the cheapest and best equipped.

I like that case (both versions) - I think it's possible to make it quiet if not silent.

IDE HD - I've been quiet impressed with a couple of older Seagate IDE 7200.7 drives, they are much quieter than SATA ones. As you want new then I would recommend Samsung.

Fans - One of the best fans I've come across is the NorthQ Nano Ceramic Bearing 120mm fan from Scan, very quiet (quieter than the Sharkoon 1000 120mm and Nexus Orange 120mm).

I would have recommended a Ninja but it's not going to fit in the case recommended above. The Zalman 8000 didn't get a good review in SPCR so I'll recommend a Thermalright cooler (if it fits).
