Quick E4300 temp confusion

On my new system, coretemp is reporting each core at a temp of 47C, while speedfan says 32. I'm swinging towards speedfan@32, because 47 seems very high for a stock e4300 at idle.
Tjunction on coretemp is 100C, therefore is presumably 85C on speedfan.

So, which one to believe?

Edit: Ok, speedfan went down to 28C and coretemp to 43C

I mean, if you look at this the stock cooler managed 41C at idle on a stock X6800! Is coretemp trying to tell me that my e4300 is being outperformed, temperature-wise, by an X6800?

Edit2: Just had another look at speedfan and coretemp while tat was running.

Coretemp reports 65C and Speedfan 50C

Speedfan also reports a cpu fan speed of 1350RPM. Would the motherboard allow the fan to spin this slowly if the temperature was 65C?

Speedfan is usually out by around 15c on the cores. Just add 15c and you get roughly the correct figure.

I have the same chip and the same problem of speed fan and core temp. After searching other forums you should use core temp 94 which is for xp rather than core temp 95 which is for vista and will register your temps higher. Speedfan now matches my core temps on core temp 94 so I would take speed fans temps as more acurate.

Although I could be wrong :) In which case I am frying my e4300 as we speak :)

I am running Vista and using coretemp 95. I just find it difficult to believe that I am getting an idle of 43, in a p182, so I'm inclined to believe speedfan (with the 15c lower temps).

ambient temps?
Have you checked if the cooler is seated properly? check to see the thermal paste imprint to see if it did make good/bad contact.

Speedfan always reports around 15c lower than the temps actually are, it is a well known problem.

Your temps are way too high, it sounds like one of the lugs isnt on properly on the cooler.

All the lugs are down properly, as far as I can tell.

The cooler is solid against the motherboard, I can't budge it with gentle force.

well that depends - do you have it set on a certain percentage? this would explain the inappropriately low fan speed, else id invest in a new cooler if i was you.

also, what sort of voltage are you giving your chip?

Stock voltage. On speedfan the fan speeds are all at 100%, if that's what you mean, otherwise it's on auto. At idle right now, it is at 675RPM, according to speedfan.

I didn't set Speedfan to control the fan speed, so that's self-regulating.

Ok, so speedfan went below ambient :surrender:

I adjusted the temps.

I also did a light OC, to 2.66ghz, multi of 8 and fsb of 333mhz. Dropped the temperature by dropping the voltage by .1 I think. Load temps at around 52C. :mrgreen:

Not really bothered by this, as it is only intended to tide me over to late autumn when I will buy a quad core and probably a CNPS8700-anyone got a review?
