Core2Duo vs FX-62

I came across an awesome $450 rebate on the Vigor Gaming website that puts the FX-62 at approximately the same price as the Core2duo E6420 2.13ghz. I am having a hard time deciding. The Fx-62 has a higher clock speed and is AMD's top of the line chip, but the E6420 draws less power (and is cooler), is built on 65 nm archetecture (vs the 90 nm of the FX-62) and has a larger L2 cache (4 mb vs. 2 mb). however, the FX-62 is supposed to be an awesome CPU.

For gaming, go for the FX-62.

For sound / video editing and 3D work, the E6420 would be better.

It depends what your mating it up with(mating this early on a friday).
What mb,what chipset,which ram its the the sum of the whole.
Get the latest and greatest cpu and stick it in a no hope mb,crap ram and you have just wasted your money.
Sit back look at your finances and work out if you have enough cash to make the cpu shine if not go for the cheapest.

Have a gander at TH's CPU chart.

Personally I'd get the C2D as it spanks the FX-62 at CPU heavy tasks and only loses a few FPS when it comes to games.

id personally get the intel as it will run cooler.but thats just my 2cents.

i dont think cooling running really comes into it if your arent overclocking...

I had an old AMD running around 65 degrees for years..no problem.

I'd be inclined to get the AMD.

two questions:

1.) Will the FX-62 give me a noticable improvement with gaming?

2.) given my specs, would indulging in a high-powered processor be justified?

Allow me to restate the point then...
If you spend the 10 minutes it will take you to look at how the E6420 performs compared to the E6700 and E6600, it will provide you with reasonable, and more importantly, accurate data to base your decision on.

Just because the chip has a different number on it doesn't mean its a different beast at heart.
