    'Light Weight' Laptop

    Hi Guys

Looking for a mid-range, light weight laptop for someone at work. I'm not up to date with what's hot and what's not, so was wondering if any of you fine chaps could point me in the right direction.

Its going to be taken all over the place on business so it has to be light and portable.

    Best Regards

Careful with the xps m1330 though. fantastic laptop but its got a loooooong lead time at the moment. Dont expect it before the end of august.

    When are looking to buy.

The new sony sz6 will be out soon. Very similar to the xps m1330 but with the option of both geforce 8400 AND x3100 with a switch to turn the 8400 off. It also adds a docking station which the dells don't have.

The thinkpads as suggested already are good buisness laptops.

Looking to buy in a week or two really. Performance wise it doesn't have to be amazing, just reliable.

The dell D630 is a good laptop but it's not ultraportable. It weights about 2.2kg i think and its a 14.1" widescreen. You'll get 6 hours or more hours from the battery and you have a next day onsite warranty..anywhere in the world afaik.

wish I read the post above about the lead times on the M1330 ... I ordered one a month or so ago and the website says "approx 10 days" then 1 month and now another month delay ... rang them up today and despite them pleading canceled the order which is a shame as it really is the machine I wanted ... nothing else seems to come as close for the same cash?

Exactly..nothing does come close for the cash lol

I'm eagerly but patiently awaiting mine to come.

Saw some in game footage of FEAR being played on one earlier today on youtube. Not fantastically high frame rates but very good results none the less..all on maximum settings to.

Dell Latitude D430. Excellent business machine, reliable as a half-brick in a sock, light, great connectivity.

I agree with that, the D430 is a great ultra portable.

Only problem with them is they start to feel long in the tooth long before you want to get rid of them.

They are a bit of a marmite breed.. some people love the long battery life and can deal with the performance loss.. other's like me can't stand them because they just get on my nerves.

Best things about the M1330 is its using desktop replacement hardware so its got great performance for a laptop.

And excellent battery life + all the features you need to get your job done. Trackpoint is a bit of a love/hate thing though. I've never used anything but stinkpad so I prefer the red nipple of joy, but those reared on trackpads often find them a real bugbear
