SN41G2 - Decent graphics card required.

    Hey all,

I run a fairly old Shuttle SN41G2 and want to upgrade the grahics to something newer and more able to run more recent games. Can anyone recommend what they are running in their SN41G2's as I am unsure how much power some of the newer GFX cards take when they need the power connecter attached to them and whether the standard Shuttle PSU can do it.

Any advices from current SN41G2 users would be a great help. Thanks.

    Dran.

I've got an ATI 9600 pro (ok not exactly new!) in my SN41G2 and it runs fine. I've been looking at the X1950XT you can buy at ebuyer, and I note that they also do a replacement 300w psu for the Shuttle. I might just go for a newer shuttle and keep this one as a linux box though - sometimes it's cheaper to bite the bullet.

Thanks for the info Mariom. I was hoping to cram something like the X1950 into the SN41G2 but when I e-mailed Sapphire to ask about the X1950 GT ( I think it was, its an AGP version of the X1950) They e-mailed back and said not to do it. However, I was not sure if they meant "don't do it at all" or whether they just thought that the standard PSU wouldn't be able to push the power needed to run it.

I will lookup the old e-mail but I think you may be right that I will just have to build a new machine and keep this one for a media pc or something.

Is this the version with the 250w PSU??

My previous computer was a SN41G2 V2 which had the 250w PSU and I ran both an ATI 9500pro and Nvidia 6600GT and 6800 series cards in them.

I would go for either a 6800GT or 7600GT AGP.

If you want to use the X1950 AGp it maybe compatible. Check these links on the website SFFTECH which specialises in SFF computers:
