    logitech want me to smash my webcam with a hammer!

    I kid you not. They are sending me a replacement and I got this email from them.

    "After you receive the replacement device, please proceed as following in order to close your case.

    a. Please take a picture of your old Logitech QuickCam Zoom Camera (in existing state) and then smash the defective Camera using a hammer.
    b. Now take a picture again of the damaged QuickCam Zoom Camera and send us both the pictures as an attachment (not more than 0.5 MB)."



    Do you think it's a joke? I just thought I'd have to cut the usb lead off and send it to them.

    har... still waiting for them to have a moan about not resending my mouse batterys and dongle after it got returned due to the RMA number missing a digit as the package got scratced, send a em a pic with a note saying i have no hammer next to it.. just for a laugh. see if they ever reply.

    It's just so that you can prove that you're not keeping a 'defective' one to sell. They do the same with Mouse RMAs (but they ask that you cut the cable up and mail it to them).

    Thats awesome if its true - I see a compensation claim coming along here...

    seems to me that smashing a piece of plastic coated electronics would send small shards or bit flying around, if they havn't told you how to do it safely (eg, put it in a sock and smash it inside that, oh and definitely wear safety goggles) then you can rightly complain and have a *real* go at them.

    What's the point in being negative. They're sending a new one out, no questions asked, not putting you through any trouble at all, and you get to smash stuff up on request! Some people dream about this sort of support!

    Haha that is pretty legendary. They told me to cut the cable off of my speakers when I told them they were no longer working. All part of their RMA so you don't have to send it back. Still a hammer to a webcam. If you get hurt does that mean you can take them to court as well haha.

    Unfortunately - while I agree that common sense *should* play a part here, I know people who just don't have any..and young children are especially likely to not have as much common sense as an older, more experienced person

    Its almost as bad as McDonalds having to put a line on their coffee cups saying 'caution: hot' which is even more crazy..but in this day and age it seems to need doing..

    edit: oh and yes, I have bought a hammer from B&Q before which came with an instruction leaflet, telling me not to hit my fingers with it will try and find the leaflet and take a pic, it was quite funny

    I heard an interesting "other side" to that story once from a friend, that McDonald's had to do this (and lost the lawsuit) because they serve their coffee 10 degrees centigrade hotter than most other resteraunts in the US do.

    However, smashing a webcam seems like a fun thing to do why complain??
