Pretty much as the title says, I have been offered either of them for 10 quid by my old boss, I am thinking the Brother one is the better deal, as it had a new toner put in a month or so ago (and seems to be a newer printer according to google), where as the samsung one he dosn't know when it was last changed.
just wanted to know if there were any major pitfalls with either of them.

Of those 2 printers I would say the Brother is easily the better option. Its a much better build quality than the Samsung one, and the fact that it has a new toner cartridge makes it a no-brainer! For £10 you might as well just get both of them, keep the better one, and flog the other one on ebay for £20.
considering that toner is ~£40, i would go for... both.
I have a samsung ml1210 and it's a doddle to refill - for about 8quid (3000page refill)
When I say a new toner, it was just a refill, but I ended up getting both of them anyway, and getting another samsung one thrown in for free (same model, but unfortunatly it isn't working, the toner could be refilled and reused though)
