I have a NAS with 300gig storage and print server, and don't really use my pc for gaming.
The new pc will be running windows XP (easily enough done on either) and used for mainly media usage, although probably not video editing.

Whatever's cheaper (which wont be the mac mini).
i like your thinking - don't forget the mini comes with cpu, hdd, ram, dvdrw.
even buying a shuttle with all that stuff, would most likely make it cheaper than a mini :D
