Maxtor's RMA policey
OUTSTANDING!
Just about to RMA my 40gb maxtor (posting on Monday) and have just gone through the website, with the powermax code. Now i have an RMA number, somewhere to post it, all in about 10mins. Where as with other companies it takes lots of emails to get a number.
simply fantastic. I would have gone for the advanced RMA (where they post you the hard drive first, then you post yours.) sadly i dont have a credit card.
Anyone else used them?
Will
ps. the warrenty on mine is until september 2005! legend!

IME IBM/Hitachi, Seagate are no different.
Now when it comes to the service once you send the drive in, thats a different matter altogether.

RMA'd a Seagate just before it's 3 year warranty expired. Got a repaired drive of the same model back (from Norway/Denmark - not certain) within two weeks. Very pleased.
That one failed 6 months later - but that was to be expected - they were aging drives.
Also, I've found that e-mailing Seagate tech support is great - they help me with all sorts of stuff like firmware issues and so on.
So I'd say Seagate are as good as Maxtor in many ways.

i've got 2 harddrives to RMA here, a 60gb one and a 40gb one.. the 60gb warranty runs out in 2months, the 40gb in 2005 - same as you blockers :).. see what i get in exchange for them :)

well it is superior to any companies i have used (gainward, aria, ebugger)
-
try a Yamaha RMA - sent them a message via their online form, got a new drive sent via TNT before the email confirmation
or Iiyama who also also do advance RMA by default without asking for payment details or anything like that
totally unimpressed with Creative Labs though on the other hand...

Well, I'm trying to RMA a dead 40gb Laptop drive from IBM (now Hitachi).
Completely dead (not even recognised by BIOS). However, put the serial number into the site, says invalid. You therefore can't proceed with RMA.

maxtor are very very good for RMA, if only the posting was to Britain rather than S.Ireland.
-
... how much is recorded postage going to be to ireland??

I would guess about £7-9, as it costs that much to send a graphics card to germany. and with a little more weight to some where closer i would guess its about the same
-
I think blockers is about right, I seem to remember it cost me about £6-7 when I returned a drive to Maxtor.
I've returned a fair few drives to them now using the advanced RMA and they have always been pretty damn good, always quick and never had any problems with the service.

It cost me £8.18 to send my Gainward video card to Germany via Royal Mail three days ago. That price included me paying for extra insurance should it be lost. If you do not get the extra insurance then you can only claim £30. I am not sure what the proper name for the type of delivery is, but the ticket says “signed for international” and “Priority Handling & Registered Delivery”.
