Changing CPU (same socket) will windows still work?

i want to upgrade to dual core, as i find watching some high res videos extremely laggy and encoding takes quite a bit of time and lags me pc.. so dual core soon...

but i just realised what happens with windows? will i have to reinstall it? or will it be like RAM and you can just install and everything works straight away? havent really thought about it till now

In my experience, changing the CPU doesn't require a reinstallation, so long as the motherboard is kept the same... but it might be different if going from single to dual core.

make sure your motherboard supports dual core in the bios, some require updates.
    It is Inevitable.....

Also you might need to boot in to Safe Mode and change it from being UniProcessor mode to the right one

When I changed my single core to dual core s939 I didnt have to do a thing. Just booted up, windows detected it and then rebooted. Job done!

Be sure to get the ms and amd dual core drivers if you're running XP.
