    Proper Hi-Fi 5.1

I've got some cheap Creative 5.1 speakers going straight from my sound card and I want to convert the setup to be a proper 5.1 Hi-Fi sounding setup with 2.1 for music and 5.1 for movies. I want to use whatever digital amplification that will allow individual speaker attenuation or time-delay with Dolby processing and good quality DACS etc etc.

Any recommendations? I don't want to spend a fortune and would consider going 2nd hand, but preferably I want a new set for no more than £400. Lovely smooth speakers are a must!

    Thanks!

This sounds like you want a decent 5.1 / 6.1 amp with co-ax or optical digital in. Then the amp will allow you to control each channel properly.

Yo can probably get a decent one for about £150 or so, but it might be a bit chunky in your computer room. You can get some really nice thin speakers and a reasonable sub (like the ones that come with a lot of 1 box home cinema kit) for £200 or so.

However, I know you can get decent PC speaker setups from Creative, which are even THX certified, but how much control you get over the speakers I don't know. Do you have an idea what you want it to look like?
