Future Gaming PC

Hello All,

I am starting the long and tiresome task of saving for a new gaming PC. This will be my first attempt at doing this although I have been looking at it for a while.

I am attempting to save up about £1200, which will need to include a monitor and will take me about 12 months.

My question is what can I look forward to in a years (ish) time and what are the main figures to look for in the different components:

Case
CPU
Mobo
RAM
HDD
GPU
OS
PSU

Also, is Quad worth it over Duo?

To be honest, with the speed things are changing, it's hard to recommend anything for 12 months in the future.

Better to wait until you have the cash and then re-ask the question :]

Anything recommended today is likley to be redundant or at least superceded in 12 months time

Although it is a little disappointing that we can't yet speculate what will be available in 12 months it is also great to know that I'll be able to buy stuff that will cr@p all over the great stuff of today!!!

Its always the way to be honest, same with anything like that really. TV's Hifi etc etc

Anything that is updated quickly will fall in price quickly, it just happens that PC components are probably one of the most susceptible products to this kind of pricing

I would also recommend waiting until you have the money in your pocket and then repost. Technology moves so fast it's almost impossible to recommend something for 12 months time.

Lets have a guess...... In a years time with £1200... save up for a couple of months longer, to get £1400 because the new Intel XC 10nm range will be out by then... Then, I'd say, buy this:

TOTAL: £1050 Inc VAT so that leaves £350 to spend on other acessories... you could wait a couple more months for Samsung to release the SM-328BW 28" 0.2ms 6000:1 with the money left over!

Some coincidence there Andaho - thats similar to what I had in mind. The only difference is I was going to opt for Flash drives. I think the 14400RPM and 28800RPM drives you listed would be a tad noisy for me...

Seriously though as others have stated wait until nearer the time. I bet some manufacturers don't know what they'll have out in a years time lol.

Yeah, thats a good idea, wait 12 months and than when you come back we'll tell you to wait another 12 months as there'll be alot more new stuff coming out
PC components move so fast if you always wanted to wait to see what was comming out then you'll never build one.
Lets face it with a budget of £1200 you'll be able to make a good gamming PC that'll last you a good few years
Lets face it, theres a new graghics card coming out end of year, then it'll be a new set of cpus, then mabee ddr3 will be a must as getting cheaper all the time then shortly afterwards ddr4 ram, then back round to a new graghics card all the while about 5 new mobo chipsets have been released.
Just get a quad core with 8800, can't go wrong.
