I cant see how it can be possible for your CPU to run at ambient temps. The CPU gives off heat, and the ambient temp in the room will always be cooler than the heatsink, and as the ambient temp rises, so does the CPU temp.

It wouldnt matter what fans you have in the case/on the heatsink, they still cant cool it down to ambient temps.

So, I still say that that is impossible, unless someone can show me how it can be done without any air con blowing on the heatsink, or other special cooling.

By the way, what temps are you getting?

Yea thanks for all of your help guys. Basically I just went out and got the same heatsink of course a new one, and installed the new one, with as little thermal grease as possible, about 1/4 grain of rice thru the center( straight line method), and checked all of my screws with everything nice and tight. Well I got the exact same readings and well i kinda wasted my time then. Do you guys think its just my cpu overheating (faulty) or should I just plain out leave it, I mean it kinda runs pretty fast when its at this (high)?? temperature. What do you think I should do, do you think my motherboard could have retarded readings, I mean it has cause me quite a few problems. Thanks in advance

I think it could be the IHS on the CPU..... the actual siver coloured block that you put the as5 on, I reckon it's warped. Think Clunk knows how to check it with a piece of glass. Presumably this cpu is running at stock speed and you haven't touched the voltages?

I just got a new one to test it out without having to unscrew the mobo clip to install the darn stock cooler, so Imma return it later. Yea I tried the desk fan thing and well the temps pretty much stay the same, except my GPU, it actually cools down but my CPU temp stays the same. So how do you check if the back of my CPU is warped or whatever with glass? Thanks again. Also yea my cpu is at stock and I just updated the bios to 1215, and didnt overclock anything.

Did your CPU come with a stock Intel cooler? If so, stick that on, and see if it is still too hot.

Didnt we establish that it was ridiculously hot in the room where the PC is though?

I think I may have screwed something in my bios setting on accident, so I will try to set everything back to default. Its funny though that I actually had a screw under my motherboard right where cpu cooler was so I took it out and it actually drop the temps 5-6 degrees. Thanks a lot for your guys tips, I will see what happens.

A screw? You are lucky you didnt fry it all!

It is possible that it was raising the backplate up and stopping the proper contact.

yep, same here. I think it depends on the board.

as for your temps I have pretty high temps with my Core 2 E6600 as well,. 32C at idle and 51C under heavy load (prime etc). Room temp is about 25C and can rise to 30ish. Funny thing is if I use my boards CPU reading and not the CPUs own intenal thermometer the CPU reads as not much higer than stock, I wonder if some of these CPUs have faulty thermomeaters?

The CPU rises quickly to 51c under load but then just never moves from that (maybe to 52C) as soon as the load is removed it drops stright back to 32c ish.

I am using a freezer 7 Pro and it was the same with the stock cooler.

maybe we should all have a quick look at the temps on 975 boards then?
