Unhappy HELP!!!, asus p5b-vm refusing to overclock!!!

    hi guys,

i am having a huge problem, i just built this pc 3 days ago originally with a abit fatal1ty f190-hd board which allowed my E2140 to overclock to 2.9ghz with no problems..............until the motherboard died, turns out it was a fault with the board.

i was recommended by the guys at epsilon computers to go for a asus board P5B-VM as it supposedly overclocks like a demon........... well i cant get it to boot above 210fsb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

i have tried EVERYTHING and it just refuses to boot, i know my cpu is capable of going stupidly high, so what gives???.

    here is my spec:

    core2 E2140
    asus P5B-VM
    2gb corsair xms2 6400 5-5-5-12
    freezer pro cooler

    thanks in advance

please dont flame me, i have searched all the forums and nothing has answered my problem

The last few pages, theres someone with the same board as you, we came to the conclusion that the board doesnt like overclocking much.

You can try all the settings at the start of that thread, they are for the P5B deluxe wifi.

i see, but i bet he got higher than just 50mhz than standard!.

if this board is a lost cause can you recommend me something that isnt?.

pain in the ass this is, i had to reinstall vista and beg to get a new key yesterday as aprently if you change your motherboard you need to buy a new copy of vista!!!!.

Try the P5K deluxe, it overclocks well.

Or have a read of the guide and use the settings as mentioned above. Theres also a P5K guide, click my sig, you can probably get something from all of them, but I would start with the link I first gave you.

ok just tried everything that you said in the guide.

    210fsb is the limit.

if i change the motherboard to a P5k will i have to validate windows again?

you cant have tried everything in that short space of time.

Yes, if you change the board, and you have an oem version of vista, they might tell you to bog off.

Theres a P5K VM model now, you might give that a try. Have one here but not assembled the PC yet as am awaiting my CPU still.

i am scared to get a budget motherboard again as the P5b is supposed to be a good overclocker, but my VM version doesnt!.

i didnt want to spend over £100 on a motherboard as i dont need all those 'extras' they come with.

    looking at this one:
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...d=5&subcat=913

and fyi i have been changing settings since yesterday through the night, the only thing i didnt do was ram timings and switching off the intel power saving stuff.

    thanks anyway

I'd try switching those intel power crap off as if your overclocking they really do hinder everything.

On the new board front how about a Abit Quad Gt was stable at 425fsb with my E6400 and stable at 360fsb with my Q6600 really is a great board.
