Decent (cheap!) silent 120mm fans

Which 120mm fans do you recommend which are decent performance but are silent? Theyre intended to cool a radiator in my water cooling set up as the existing ones a tad too noisy.

    Links apreciated

I just got a sharkoon golf ball and thats pretty much silent. Comes with rubbers things to mount it with to, to stop some of the virbations.

I recommed Sharkoon as well. Nexus and Coolermaster also do some cheaper, but very quiet fans.

If you choose Sharkoon, then be aware that there are 2 version a 1000rpm and 2000rpm. The 1000rpm doesnt move alot of air, but is practically inaudible.

CustomPC also found the Sharkoon golfballs to be great fans:

The YATE loon fan says its silent at 7v but works at 12v. How would I get it to run at 7v to have it silent?

Yep, I use the Sharkoon 1000's on my HTPC and they're perfect for that. In my main PC I would only go for the 2000's though.

The 120mm 1000s are more than adequate for case cooling. They push a hell of a lot more air than the 80mm ones. If it were 80mm I'd recommend the 2000s (I changed my 80mm ones from 1000s to 2000s for that reason, and they're still next to silent), but the 120mm 1000s are easily enough in all but massively overclocked systems. I use a couple of 120mms in my case running happily at 3.4GHz with an X1900XT.

Don't go on the specifications they tell you by the way! They ALL lie horribly. And even the Yate Loon which isn't a lie, is atleast wrong Its actually HIGHER than the actual noise the fan makes..

I think the Yate Loons are the best fans you can buy.

I've got two Sharkoon 1000 Golf Ball fans as my case fans and they are super quiet. But they hardly move any air. Its like a baby's breath... I then tried a Noctua fan, and it was completely crap. Now I still use the sharkoons, but I bought a Yate Loon fan for my CPU Heatsink. (I think its the "SL - Slow" one). It runs at about 1350RPM so similar to the sharkoons. But it is just as quiet and it moves more air. I can't test any of this stuff, but just judging with my ear, I would say their volume is about the same --- basically so silent I can hardly hear the things. As for air flow, again, tested by just putting my hand behind it, I would guess that the Yate Loon pushes about 60% more air than the sharkoon - even although they are the same size, speed, and volume. So to me, that makes it the best fan ever.

I haven't tried many other fans, but judging by what other people say on the internet, and comparing all that to what I have experienced myself, I would say that the yate loons are the way to go it seems.

The Yate Loon SL are good fans but out of the case (how I tested) the Sharkoon 1000 (three samples) were quieter than the Yate Loon D12SL.

Oh almost forgot, my favourite fan at the moment is the NorthQ 120mm Nano Cermaic Bearing fan - very very quite (at the expense of airflow).
