Hper 530watt Type-R

Last PC i built i usd a Hiper 530watt Type-R PSU & was really impressd with it, it looked smart, loved the modular designs & the way they screwed in and didnt just clip in.

Im specing myself a new PC, 1 year on, and would like to use the same PSU, but the closest match i can find is the Hiper 580watt Type-R which is way over my budget. Does anyone know where i can find the 530watt Type-R? Iv googled it but didnt have much luck, cheers guys.

Doesn't look like you're going to get hold of one from a retailer. Your best bet is Ebay or classifieds.

I've been pricing up components in the last two weeks & happen to have a 530W Hiper on my list at 43ukp, however I cleverly didn't write the supplier down

Ah, hang on, I did bookmark it. It was ebuyer, but it's the type M. Also out of stock, but they do report stock is due in. That any good?

i was interested in the modular design more then anything. Does anyone else have any more recommendations for a modular PSU\/ £50-60 roughly. Preferably cheapr (but still gd quality) the better. When i get access to my old PC(dad has it atm) ill just swop the PSUs, and get the type-R out of that.

Q6600, 8800GTS, 2gb ram & 2 x HDDs in an antec 900.

The Type-M is described as the wallet friendly version of the Type-R & is still modular.

In my case my budget for a psu is around 40-45 though I'd go up a tenner if I really needed to. Oddly I'm planning on using the same case & cpu as you, however my graphics requirements are lower - only a 7600GS for a workstation (though I might be running with up to five or six drives); I reckon I need 400W+ but figured on around 500W+ to allow for aging of psu components, as I use my machines heavily & hope to get five+ years out of them. Oh, I'll probably go with a Tuniq Tower 120 hsf & do a moderate overclock to 3GHz, maybe 3.2. Modularity would be nice but isn't essential.

They seem to have a good rep, though I don't know anything about that particular model. Regarding capacity I'd guess yes, but don't know - however this power supply calculator seems comprehensive & is well recommended.

When you posted earlier you did ask about a psu specifically for the Antec 900, but just in case anyone is going to make a suggestion that isn't familiar with the 900, it's perhaps worth pointing out explicitly that that case (like most/all? the antec cases) mounts the psu at the bottom, so sometimes reaching the cpu power connector on the mobo can be a problem, especially if you want to cleanly route the cables.

Is this as likely to be a problem with a psu in the 50+ukp range as with the cheaper units?

Until I told it I wanted a long lifespan it told me I needed around 400W, so you're saying 200W would be enough for a typical overclocked workstation? I've not seen anyone else suggest that. As to it being on the conservative side, that's better than t'other way, surely?

Any reasons for your opinion? Always interested to know.

Depends on the specs, but PSU calculators have almost consistently way overrated power consumption of components.

They are pretty good.
The Zalman 600W is identical inside to the OCZ Stealth
