Epia 800 performance...
I know a few of you have Epias and IIRC Josh has an 800.. Whats the performance of these like? It will be used in an in-car pc, so it will be running mp3s, dvds, gps, cameras. wifi, bluetooth, and, most power hungry of all, divx movies from the hd.
Im asking this cos ive seen a complete system for sale, with all the base parts i will be requiring.
So will an 800 be up to the job?

The 800 is pretty crap for DVD playback and DIVX is dodgy, if these things concern you then theres only one thing to get, the M10000
-
divx was pretty choppy on mine. and dvd playback wasn't perfect on windows 2000 but with windows 98 it was fine.
check out my site (jillajang) for a review of my 800. ( http://www.joshwa1.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk ) - there's also links to other people's reviews. and on www.mini-itx.com there is a review of the nehemiah with comparisons to all the other epia's.
i think a nehemiah would be much much better suited for what you want it for... :)

my epia 800 with 128mb crucial cas2 will play 1cd divx and xvid fine with some post processing, i didnt try it with dvd's yet, i think though that the nehemiah are more suited to media playback.

i used to have an EPIA800.
The DivX play back was horrid
DVDs took ages to load up and when they did start playing sound was out of sync.
Counterstrike played, but at about 10 frames/sec at the lowest settings.
Basically don't waste your money on the lower spec models unless all youre going to be doing is a bit of web surfing, MP3 playing or Word Processing.

Find an old Shuttle board and stick a P3 in it. Or hunt about for industrial single-board PCs.
-
Or just use the Nehemiah M10000.
Counterstrike is running really good on it.
Right now i have a Radeon 9000 pci running with my epiasystem and the performance is really good.

Nehemiah, what kind of 3dmarks are ya getting at different resolutions???? I'm asking 'cos i've got a M10000 on its way and am planning on getting a pci fx5200 to go with it :)
cheers
