E4500 overclocking results??

Anyone here got an Intel E4500 yet?? How are they for overclocking??

I have a E4300 overclocked to 3ghz but my Shuttle SD37P2 seems to be unable to run 4gb at 333ghz(2gb is fine)

I was thinking that using an E4500 with its higher multiplier would mean I could get to 3ghz with a lower FSB and hence I could run my memory at a lower speed!!

The worst thing is that I am NOT even overclocking my memory!!

Yes, getting a E4500 will allow you to get to to 3GHz with a lower FSB, but is it really it worth it?

If the only benefit is running you memory at a lower speed - thus getting to use all 4GB, why not just get a better motherboard that would run the memory, and overclock the chip better... Take a look at the P35 boards, which'll future proof at the same time.

On the other hand, I would LOVE to know what overclocks people can get with the E4500

Not really possible since the SD37P2 is a small form factor pc and the motherboards are made especially for the case(it is a barebones). Shuttle have made some noise about selling the motherboards separately which they have not done for many years but I think this will be still a good couple of months. Providing that they are not too expensive and fit without many problems I may try to get hold of one of the newer motherboards since they will feature the newer chipsets!

How are your temperatures in that shuttle case? I'm looking to build a HTPC for my uncle soon and want to base it around a core2, as long as the temps aren't too high!

is there not just a memory divider setting that you can use in order to lower your ram speed?
alternatively, try lowering the SPD settings on the ram.

I think that they are usually below 50C even under load - I wil check this for you today or tommorrow!

I have the fans on low setting and everything seems ok!!

Supposedly if the ICE CPU cooler is reversed such as that it blows air out of the graphics card side of the case cooling is improved. This does makes sense though as it means hot air from the graphics card is definitely not circulated over the CPU!! I will try this soon as I will hopefully get an E4500 soon!!

I tried relaxed settings - I can get stably upto 2.7ghz on the E4300 with 4gb of RAM and 3ghz will now boot(I have used the latest BIOS now) but 3ghz cannot be sustained under Orthos as errors are produced!

Funnily if I used 2gb there is no issues running the E4300 at 3ghz!!

The memory settings in the BIOS are limited though!!

I ran Orthos for a few minutes to warm the processor up and with 100% CPU activity Rightmark reports a temperature between 40-43C.The processor is overclocked from 1.8ghz to 2.7ghz and the room is not air-conditioned or cold. I used Artic Silver ceramique for the thermal compound.

Finally got my E4500!! I managed to get it up to 3.1ghz in the SD37P2 V1 but anything above is unstable under Orthos. I may have to do a bit of tweaking though!! I suspect that better overclocking motherboards would produce a bigger overclock! Unlike my E4300 I had to increase my voltage to nearly 1.4v to get to 3.1ghz - the E4300 would need up to 1.3v to get to 3ghz!!
