A E2140 and a P5K premium, how fow can you go....

well umm, im not exactly genius at this sort of thing, the last thing i overclocked was a 2500+ to the speeds of a 3200+ and to be honest the mobo did that itself!.

ok so fast forward 4 years and i have decided to give it a shot.

now i have been through 3 motherboards in 5 days but now i got it figured out, with thanks to clunks fantastic guide and some good advice, i have managed to push my chip pretty high.

remember this started out at 1.6ghz with a FSB of 200!!!.

need something to stress it with as that orthos doesnt make it crash asfter 10 mins.

    max temp 72c

so i think i hit the wall .

396 fsb, any higher and it refuses to boot, strange thing is thats its very stable at 396, must be the cpu limit.

so i got a 99% overclock, i have dropped voltage down to 1.4 , temps are now just under 70c under load, thats air cooled on a freezer pro 7.

    not bad for £48!

will now put orthos on for an hour.

What through trial and error whilst getting to grips with overclocking? lol

What did you buy the chip for if you're just going to throw it away. To flash a BIOS or just experimenting? Careful you don't damage the board as well if the chip goes...

i was trying to see what i could do with a small budget, despite the fact i dont have a budget!.

i started with a fatal1ty board, the HD one..........it fried but did a good 2.8ghz overclock.
then got a p5b-vm , which only alowed 20mhz on the fsb...........less said the better.

bit the bullet and bought a good motherboard and its worked out well, 2 hours stable on the orthos thing, i am planning to get a e6550 or a e6750 next.

just got my 6750, and out the box with no changes it hits 19secs for 1m, it also runs cool even with orthos (admittedly only for a few mins) TAT has reported it as low as 10c/11c. coretemp on the other hand says the same, but shows only one core which i haven't fathomed out why yet (anybody know? couldn't be because the chips are so new? orthos is the same that it only launches 1 thread like it thinks it's a single core cpu...why????).
