    A7n8x-x

I asked this in my other post but go no awnser so i thought i'd ask in a new thread.

I have the Asus A7N8X-X (Not Deluxe, its a stripped down version)... and the RAM slots are all black, no two distinctive blue ones or anything, and I cant find anything in the manual or on the website which says about Dual DDR...

Can anyone tell me if this board does or doesn't support dual DDR?

    Ok, thanks...
Thats why i was going to get single stick of 512 instead of 2 x 256, that way its easire to upgrade in the future.

Get the 512 single now... & later on when you go to dual channel get another stick of the SAME stuff for a total of 1GB of ram.

Acid your chick looks much better now. Before I couldnt tell if she was a feminine guy or a chick. I'd definitely bang her now. She kinda reminds of this chick http://ww3.voyeurweb.com/main/VQe28/...912/index.html kinda

Dual channel ain't an option on the n8x-x boards, unfortunately. purely a single channel, value solution.

I know on THAT mobo dual channel is not an option... but almost everything new is dual channel. Opteron mobos, newer P4 mobos, most Nforce2's etc....

Ah right, I've just googled and found shops both selling both the non-deluxe version and the -X version aswell. My non-deluxe version does indeed have the 2 blue coloured ran slots and the maunual (pretty pathetic - not impressed with this Asus board) does indeed mention Dual DDR.

Also Neither of our two boards have the Nvidia sound MCP - although this doesnt bother me as I dont really game much these days.

As far as I know...that mobo DOES support DUAL RAM, and you should stick the 2 sticks in the nearest and furthest from the CPU....ie leave a gap in between.

    A stands for Asus
    7 stands for Athlon (K7)
    N stands for nVidia
    8 stands for AGP8x
    X stands for....welll.....er....X...

but its what I have, and it IS dual ram....

in fact even the OLD nForce1 supported dual ram

Sadly i'm afraid it doesn't look like it does Zak, I was fairly sure this morning that it did, however i went on the Asus site, downloaded and read the manual and checked other sites on the net, and it certainly looks to me the reason the board is cheaper is because its only got a single memory controller, saves about $15 on the board cost, which is why its a budget board.

However this doesn't mean its crap, some of these DDR400 boards with single channel DDR are actually quicker.!!?!?.

Seems they can squeeze better performance out of 1 channel.

I was convinced it did this morning, however after reading all i did i'm fairly sure it hasn't now.

I'm pretty sure it's just a single channel solution.

A bit like the one here:

    http://www.amdmb.com/article-display.php?ArticleID=244

If you really want to check to be certain then pop the northbridge cooler off and see what revision it is - the single channel solution is the '400' labelled northbridge like the Soltek board in the above link.

Oh yeah and it was found to be rather competitive against dual channel nForce2s too!

Nvidia released a 64bit memory control version of the Nforce 2. I believe the difference between the 2 is....
    Nforce2 Ultra 400 - 128bit memory (dual channel)
    Nforce2 400 - 64bit memory (single channel)

    Quoted from Anandtech
Recently, NVIDIA released a new chipset onto the market, dubbed nForce2 400, aimed squarely at VIA, who has now been mostly regulated to the budget chipset market. The nForce2 400 chipset is physically identical to an nForce2 Ultra 400 chipset except for its 64-bit single channel DDR memory interface (nForce2 Ultra 400 has a 128-bit dual channel DDR memory interface). Based on early testing, it looks as if the nForce2 400 could be a big hit among budget users and budget enthusiasts alike.
