What does it mean when a HDD beeps quiet loud?

Its not clicking (yet), its just producing a proper loud PC beep out of my 2.5" maxtor one-touch 60gb usb drive

I had the beep from a 2.5" seagate hdd when its usb enclosure was faulty, didn't seem to be providing it with enough power.

The beep must be specific to the Maxtor One touch drive. It probably says what it means in the manual. It's possible the Hard drive is on its way out and the enclosure is telling you this.
