    Problem with new build ...

Spec of the pc is as in my sig. All parts brand new except graphics card. Vista is crashing. Blue screen then reboots. This is within a few minutes of the pc being on. It tells me the following upon reboot:

    Problem caused by computer hardware

This problem was caused by an unrecoverable hardware error that caused the operating system to stop functioning.

    Troubleshooting

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you have received this error more than once, it could indicate a serious problem with your computer. We recommend that you do the following:

Back up your files to avoid data loss in case of a complete hardware failure.
Contact the original manufacturer of your computer to determine the specific component which is failing.
    Additional technical information

Although we know the problem is caused by a hardware component, the error report does not contain enough information to tell us the specific component. It is likely that the problem is being caused by one of the following computer components:

    Random Access Memory (RAM)
    System board
    Central Processing Unit (CPU)
    Power supply

Everything is running at stock speed and voltages. No overclocking. Latest BIOS.

    HD Temp 37c
    CPU 33c
    MB 35c

    +3.3 - 3.26v
    +5 - 5.06v
    +12 - 11.93v

Anyone have any ideas of what the problem could be? Are the PSU readings ok? I have never taken much notice of them in the past. The PSU is an Enermax Liberty 400W. My Zalman MFC which shows power usage says the system is using 116W.

I shall check the memory with MemTest. Anything good to test the CPU with except Prime95 which just stress tests it. Is there a program that can identify a faulty CPU?

    Thanks.
    Nickp.

Memory or board I'd say, although wiser heads than mine are sure to comment before long. Is that 2x1Gb sticks, or just 1x2Gb sticks? Got any other RAM lying around? Whip it out and see what happens if you do...

just married these two together myself and had no probs. but check

    1. everything is well seated, including the hsf (is it supplied or aftermarket?) and psu connectors to the mobo are properly plugged in and not loose.
    2. try the mobo out of the case, and try it barebones, 1 stick of ram then the other etc as a process of elimination
    3. memory voltage/timings set correctly.

just a few things to try but might give you pointers as what it might be.

Ran the Vista Memory Diagnostics Tool. It said everything is fine. Decided to run it again but this time the extended test. It has found a fault within a few minutes.

Will test the RAM using MemTest once the Vista test finishes.
