fsb 1333 confusion
i have an e6750 i believe it has an fsb of 1333.
im alittle confused at my mobo manual its a ga-p35-ds3r btw..
it says in the manual
for an 800mhz fsb cpu set cpu host freq to 200
for 1066 set fsb to 266
for 1333 set fsb to 333
ok so what im confused about is, the defualt is 200, my cpu is at 2.6 mhz
i changed it to 333 so that it would be the correct setting for my cpu.
but isnt turning the fsb up overclocking my cpu?
i thought it would but it stays at 2.6, i dont get that?

The E6750 runs on a bootstrap of 1333MHz. Intel quad-pump the FSB to attain this speed, so the FSB speed in this instance is 333MHz.
The E6750 also has a variable multiplier of 6-8. By default, this will be set to 8.
8x333Mhz = ~2.6GHz Core speed.
Are you sure in the BIOS, the fsb is set to 200, or to auto?

the cpu host freq was set to 200 from first boot, i changed it to 333 today after reading the manual
but the 2.66 hasnt changed, havent tried past 333 but i assume it will change past 333

Sounds like speedstep/eist doing its thing.
Open cpuz and then put the cpu under load, youll see the cpu frequency change.
-
oh cool the multi changed from 6 to 8 and the speeds are changing under load
so is it still possible to overclock
-
yep, disable intel speedstep in the bios and crank that FSB up:D
be sure to read clunks overclocking guide in hexus.hardware so you get an idea of what you're doing:)
