CPU Water Cooling running to high?

HI there,

I have had my new PC for about 3 months.

I was not bothered about the temps and never really looked into until recently, it seems my core temps for my quad core all run high, is this the correct temp or should I be worried?

I think the GFX card runs this high anyway because it came already overclocked.

Can you recommend to me, what I should do if these are not running right, Thankyou.

Using Core Temp

Core 0 80c
core 1 78c
core 2 70c
core 3 70c

On Abit Unguru

Cpu idle is between 58 - 68c
Cpu under stress is between 60 - 70c

GPU Core temp 78c- 80c

The simple answer is that the watercooling isnt up to it.

Cheap watercooling will generally give you temps similar to air cooling.

Specific quad core blocks have a larger cooling area.

You probably need a backplate to stop the motherboard bending.

Personally, if you are running the CPU at stock speeds and voltages, then yes, you should be a bit worried, thats quite high.

Woah, that's all pretty damn hot. An OCed 8800 ultra and core2quad are enough to warrant top of the range watercooling, triple rads kinda thing.

Ok, so from what i've read on SCAN, this system only has a dual rad. How about buying another dual rad and adding that to the loop?

SO you are saying the cooling in the system is not good, should I contact SCAN who I brought it from as I still have 9 month warranty, or should I buy a better water block like this D-Tek FuZion CPU Block as recommended in Clunk's post, and fit it myself.

I have no problems with stabilty, everything runs as it should and it never crashes, although im thinking the system will probably die in a year or so if the cooling is not improved.

I have no experience with water cooling, I never fitted my own water system, is it easy? or should I replace all the water stuff and go back to Air, and replace the stock cooler on the Ultra also.

I'm saying that built in watercooling, is generally of a low quality. It was never designed to work with a quad core CPU, and an overclocked CPU will just overwhelm it.

It all depends what you are trying to do. If you want a silent, overclocked system, then watercooling is your best option.

You need to let us know if you will be overclocking the CPU.

No, I have no need to overclock it, I just saw it and thought why not water cooling sounds cool.
So what do you suggest, I will add an image to show you the temps.

whats the radiator? 120.1 or 120.2?
8mm id tubing, is it push-fit or barbs?

Well, you could try a backplate first, they can drop the temps by a good 10-15c.

Does the waterblock screw on or is it push clips?

I have no idea, when I look in case it has 2 pipes going to cpu and a small water container at the bottom, another 2 pipes go upto the top of the case where 2 fans are sitting, HAHA like a neddle in a haystack
The plate that sits on the cpu is square, it often moves about and I have had to put 2 pieces of plastic under where it rests,otherwise overtime the pipe on the right pushes it over to the left. As in its not sitting right in the middle of the CPU.

Like I say I have no idea about water cooling, maybe they move abit freely because it's set inside a cage like thing with room for the resting plate to move, If only I could take a picture.

It screwed onto the motherboard.

could you take a picture of the current setup?
look for the large black box with lots of metal in it:)
it will look something like this:

Well that doesnt sound too healthy in itself.
Are you sure its fitted properly (sounds like it isnt as it moves on its own) because with its Quad or not, those temps are WAYYY to high. I wouldve thought stock air cooling would be less than that tbh.

Yes they are barbs, is that large balck box sitting uptop the case under the 2 fans?

the components should be easily interchangeable, so you should be able to get a half-decent block.

can you take some pictures of the inside of the case, as i'm not quite sure what you're meaning when you say "it" moves. :D

Whats strange is, since I have had the case on its side and moved it about abit, its seems to be cooling better, although 70 is still to high.

it looks like the block is orientated 90 degrees out of kilter. You shouldn't be able to see the retention mechanism underneath the block, like you can in the last picture.
Try re-orienting the cpu block so that the two pipes are vertically aligned, rather than horizontal.
also, did the loop come pre-filled?

Hmm, in that last picture, it looks like there is bubbles in the pipe to the left?

Can you explain this to me please, im not sure what you mean. Due you mean it is not in the right position? and needs to be moved over.

Or is i need to take the thing out so the pipes are on 1 side of the metal bracket? also does any water comeout when i take it off?

And yes it came filled with Fesser One Cooling Fluid.

It was turned of at the time, would it make a diffrence? are you ment to see the water flowing, because the water pump at the bottom, there is not alot of activity except when you turn it on.

looking at a few pictures on google of the XP light, it would seem that the block will sit like that no matter the orientation. Can you physically move the waterblock about on the processor?

Yes it will move if the pastic bits are not there, it will shift over to the left.

It will move to the place on the left, where the piece of plastic is. It will shift, but it's not instant it takes time, this is how I found out the temps kept rising.

But ever since I took the photos, it's running cooler Unguru is saying between 52-55.

Is there anyway I can check the fluid circulation.

check for moving bubbles, they should be pretty much eliminated as it'll have been run before it left the factory. See the screw on the top? you need to tighten that so that it drops in to hold the block in place, as right now the block probably isn't making good contact with the CPU.

Check those temps now, nothing to worry about, to think ive been using at 60-70c for 3 months thinking it was ok, im glad I checked on this forum.

CPU running at a cool 47c all the time.

wooo glad i could be of some help. Leave it running for a while and see how your temps iron out.

Good work Steve B! Wozza, if you find temps still too high it's quite possible to replace single parts of the watercooling loop with higher grade ones. Watercooling isn't as scary as it seems when you get your head around it. Plus, even if the system leaks, feser one is non-conductive so it wouldn't harm the system anyway
